Certain life changing events happen by good fortune--I can't claim they happened by design. Williams College encouraged curiosity and community service, a legacy that affects me every day. A distant relative, a world renowned thoracic surgeon at Yale, encouraged me to go to Rochester, surprising me with the advice that he felt the best clinicians went to medical school there. I came to Boston for residency training because of my interest in intensive care, and there discovered the exciting world of child behavior, gaining new insights from Dr. Berry Brazelton's unique emphasis on the competence of children as well as my association with Dr. Jenny Lewis, a unique individual who combines singular intuition with common sense. Building on this foundation enabled me to start a practice where I could work with families to help them develop strategies that prevented common behavior problems, and offered the opportunity to give numerous talks and presentations in the United States and abroad.

My interest in and amazement at children's abilities and individuality continues to grow each day I spend interacting with them. Over the last decade I have headed Red Tae Associates, a non-profit group which has worked with thousands of families in all fifty states and numerous countries abroad on a wide variety of issues such as adjustment to a new infant, discipline strategies, sleep disturbances, school readiness, and divorce.

Jenny and I continue to share the goal of helping parents and children, through writing, talks, consulting, and by developing innovative web based resources.
