I have wanted to be a physician as long as I can remember, and in the English tradition went straight from school to medical school in London. My fascination with babies and parenting initially led me into obstetrics, but I rapidly realized that pediatrics could offer me exactly what I was looking for--the opportunity to work closely with growing families.

I came to Children's Hospital, Boston with every intention of returning to London one year later. My experience that year and the subsequent years studying child behavior and development, changed my vision of what I could do as a pediatrician and I have been here ever since.

The last twenty years of my professional life has been spent as a primary care pediatrician. My solo medical practice, based in my home, has been "non-traditional" and I have used the opportunity to incorporate into my work with parents and children an emphasis on the social/emotional aspects of their family life. Energized by my work with Dr. T. Berry Brazelton I have taken a preventive approach to family conflicts and developmental crises and assumed a counseling role to both parents and children when behavioral/ developmental problems have occurred.

Talking with children has always been my source of inspiration and delight. When not seeing patients in the office I have enjoyed consulting to daycare centers, schools, parent groups and community groups and most of all staying actively involved in my daughters' school, musical, dramatic and sports activities. Along with our private behavioral pediatrics consulting practices, and outside consulting appointments, Bill Sammons and I are currently investigating the opportunities to write web-based material allowing parents and children to work side by side to solve behavior problems and family conflicts.
